Your photo could win you social media fame
July 18, 2010 By lincolnamphitheatre
Did you know you could get your photo taken with
Mathew Brady, an acclaimed Civil War photographer at
Lincoln Amphitheatre? But this time he uses modern
technology.
When your family purchases their souvenir photo,
you are automatically eligible to enter the
“Facebook Profile Picture of the Day Contest,” which
speaks for itself.
Everyday, I will post all of the photos taken
from the night before onto the Facebook page. After
24 hours of open voting, your photo could be the
official profile photo for Lincoln Amphitheatre of
the day.
So be creative, invite your friends and family
for more votes, and gain social media fame.
Don’t be afraid to show up in your Lincoln beard
and hat!
Good Luck!

The Darkest Day: The Battle of Gettysburg
July 3, 2010 by lincolnamphitheatre
Today marks the anniversary of the darkest day in
American History, The Battle of Gettysburg. On
July 3, 1863, the Union defeated the Confederates,
which resulted as a turning point in the Civil War.
Over 50,000 soldiers in total died during the
three day battle.
On November 19, 1863, President Lincoln was the
second speaker at the dedication for the Soldiers’
National Commentary at Gettysburg.

The recipe you all have been waiting for...
June 29, 2010 by lincolnamphitheatre
Here is the recipe you all have been waiting for:
Mary Todd Lincoln Almond Cake. The cake you get at
the Amphitheatre includes a few differences.
Remember, baking is a science…:0)
Instead of Almonds, we use pecans.
Instead of white frosting, we use buttercream
frosting because of the warmer weather.
Mary Todd Lincoln Vanilla Almond Cake
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 3/4 cups sifted cake flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 1/3 cup milk
1 cup almonds, finely chopped
6 egg whites, stiffly beaten
White Frosting:
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup water
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1 dash salt
2 egg whites
1 tsp vanilla extract
Directions:
Cream together butter, sugar, and vanilla.
Stir together cake flour and baking powder; add to
cream mixture alternately with milk.
Stir in almonds. Gently fold in the egg whites. Pour
into two greased and lightly floured
9 x 1 1/2 inch round baking pans. Bake at 375
degrees F for 28 to 30 minutes. Cool 10
minutes, remove from pans. Fill and frost with White
Frosting.
White Frosting: In a saucepan, combine sugar, water,
cream of tartar and salt. Bring
mixture to a boiling, stirring until the sugar
dissolves.
In mixing bowl place egg whites; very slowly pour
the hot sugar syrup over, beating
constantly with electric mixer until stiff peaks
form, about 7 minutes. Beat in vanilla
extract.

Once upon a time...
June 26, 2010 by lincolnamphitheatre
Geoffrey and Amelia are a real life married couple
playing a real life married couple, Abraham Lincoln
and Mary Todd Lincoln. Their story is one movie
short of a romantic comedy.
They met each other while studying theater at
Central in England. Geoffrey chased Amelia for a
year before he said he convinced her to go on a date
with him.
Shortly after graduation, they were married in a
12th century Cathedral. They have been happily
married for 34 years.
The end.

Cast your vote!
September 24, 2009 by lincolnamphitheatre
Each week USATODAY.com and
TripAdvisor.com posts a survey on a travel topic. This
week’s survey just happens to be about the best fall
scenic locations and foliage.
Now I’ve hiked to the top of the fire tower in Lincoln
State Park many times during the fall. By the time I get
up there, even though I’m dizzy and winded, I always
marvel at the beautiful fall colors. I am going to
predict that with the amount of rain we’ve had this year
our colors will be off the charts.
So … this is similar to “If you’re
happy and you know it clap your hands.” Only this one
goes along the lines of “If you like the Midwest’s fall
foliage and you know it cast your
vote!”
LINCOLN Exhibit Panoramas
September
16, 2009 by lincolnamphitheatre
Many of you, when visiting, had the chance to
tour our new Lincoln exhibit. It is a wonderful exhibit in
what used to be the gift shop … a great compliment to the
production.
The lovely
gent that worked on the projections in the Lincoln exhibit
finally got to visit us on closing night. Busy guy. While he
was here he snapped a few pictures and put together some
panoramas which he was kind enough to forward onto us.
And now I
can share them with you …

The "B" Word
September
9, 2009 by lincolnamphitheatre
Now that we've wrapped up the season here at the theatre, a
word that I am not fond of is being thrown around. A small
little "b" word. And that word is budget. As in 2010 budget. Gah!
I sometimes wonder how that one little word can instill such
fear into people. Its a sure way to make a person choke. Right
up there with the word "audit." Ghastly words.
Our managing director, Eric, has managed (isn't that
appropriate) to get through the first draft and is now working
on the second. I think that means I'd better get my butt in gear
and finalize some line items on my marketing and advertising
budget. Crikey!

most beloved music.

Melodies of Stephen Foster, and Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture

Battalion, 163rd Artillery “The Nighthawks.”
And there are cannons. Four of 'em. Need I say more?
You may purchase tickets

Mrs. Lincoln?
August 26,
2009 by lincolnamphitheatre
I have to admit that sometimes I wonder
if Mary Todd ever put on Lincoln’s hat. When he was out
maybe she would secretly try on the hat …
I mean,
I couldn’t have resisted. Heck, I sometimes put on the
beard and hat that we have here. And of course one day
our admin assistant, Nathan, happened to have camera in
hand to get evidence.

I
can’t say I blame him. How could you pass up that photo
opportunity?!
